York Scholarships

  • A limited number of York Graduate Scholarships of $6,000 each are available to top incoming MSW full–time students who maintained a minimum A– average in their last two years of study.
  • A limited number of York Graduate Scholarships of $3,000 each are available to top incoming PhD full–time students who maintained a minimum A– average in their last two years of study.
  • Students are notified of the award in their initial offer of admission from the Graduate Program.

Graduate Assistantships
Two kinds of Graduate Assistantships can be offered to full-time students. Generally students are notified of the assistantship in their initial offer of admission from the Graduate Program:

  • Graduate Assistantships (GA's) — are fully funded by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
    Value: $5,054.50 for 135 hours over two terms

    • Students must be registered full-time in the term(s) in which the Assistantship is held.
    • Students will normally be expected to assist a Faculty member in their research or to work on some other project or duties as assigned by the Director of the Program.
    • Students must not be asked to work as a GA for more than 10 hours in any given week.
    • Students must have a B+ average.
    • Masters students must not be beyond the first year of their program.
  • Matching Fund Graduate Assistantships (MFGA's) - are funded half by FGS and half by the hiring unit or faculty member.
    Value: From $4,231.50 to $8,463 for a maximum of 270 hours over two terms

    • Student must be registered full-time in terms Assistantship is held.
    • Activities required may be research, administrative, clerical or other.
    • Students must not be asked to work as an MFGA for more than an average of 10 hours per week.
